  • What Makes a Secure Web Host Secure?

    JaguarPC Guru
    24 Jan 2012 | 4:43 pm
Web hosting security is a concept that is often misunderstood and neglected, especially by website owners who lack technological expertise. A surprisingly high percentage of website owners fail to acknowledge the importance of using a secure hosting solution, and even worse, many fail to apply the most basic precautionary measures, such using complex, non-default passwords or patching applications on a regular basis. We say “surprisingly” because few of us leave our car unlocked overnight or neglect to install locks on our front door. So why do we leave our online properties, and…

Every day, we become increasingly dependent on our technology. We rely on technology to connect with friends, collaborate at work, and relax in our leisure time. Internet access has become equivalent in importance with utilities like electric power and running water. But the Internet differs from traditional utilities in one major way: with a minimum amount of resources and enough willpower, virtually anyone in the world can pull the plug on our online universe. From website takedowns to stolen confidential information, we are more vulnerable to virtual threats than we realize, and…

Particularly popular with small to medium-sized businesses and with individuals looking for the most affordable form of web hosting, shared web hosting sees numerous separate user accounts co-existing on the same hardware server. As a result of its design, users can enjoy quality web hosting services without paying the full costs of managing and operating a dedicated server. Shared hosting keeps costs low, removes the need for complex administration, and plays a vital role in helping businesses enter the online marketplace. However, the nature of shared hosting means that the performance of…

    sethyjay
    19 Oct 2011 | 2:31 pm
One of the most annoying aspects of running a blog is the crap storm of SPAM comments that start showing up almost as soon as you go online. We’re all familiar with email SPAM.. you know “Buy Viagra Now!” messages flooding your inbox. But when running a website, SPAM is a little bit different. Google determines its organic rankings based on how many other sites link into it. Quality websites have quality links from other quality sites. But in the online world, and in the effort to make a quick buck, thousands of people have employed a bunch of scam tactics to trick Google…

Nameservers: Telling the Net Where Your Website Is The very first thing you need to associate with your hosting account is a domain name (i.e. www.whatever.com). Over time, since you have “unlimited domains”, you will be able to buy domains, and add them to your hosting account very quickly. Sometimes I set up 4 websites in a couple of hours using this approach. When someone types in www.whatever.com the internet needs to know where the website is. Setting up your account is simply the process of telling the internet where the website associated with www.whatever actually is. (To…

Primary and Addon Domains in Plain English My website here www.simplewebhostingcomparison.com is what we call an “Add On” Domain. My primary domain for my Hostgator account is www.filmschoolsecrets.com. This is the website I first registered with my hosting company. Since then I’ve “added on” at least 15 more websites. For your first website you don’t have to do anything, but every time you add another domain, point the nameservers, to it, etc. you also need to tell your host that it’s got a new website associated with it. (Like telling your Mom that…

Learn How to Set Up a Blog In Less Than 5 minutes Learning how to set up a blog is literally as easy a setting up an email account these days. But unlike email, you probably don’t want to use a free blogging host. The disadvantage of free blogging sites like blogger.com are that without your own hosting, you don’t really control your own content, and you also don’t have much control over the design of the blog. Remember, you can get started hosting with Hostgator for as little as $.01 if you choose their “Baby Plan” and type in the coupon code…

    28 Jan 2012 | 6:08 am
The virtualization of storage is really helpful to target storage allocation and information management issues in the right manner. And it is a necessary requirement for achieving business continuity and disaster recovery. Additionally, the increase in unorganized data versus the availability of storage is driving corporate investments in storage virtualization, information life cycle management and back-up / archival technologies, with the latter receiving the most attention. This is the reason we are constantly developing our storage, virtualization and open source tools, not just to…
  • Tomcat is an application server or web server?

    bodhost
    11 Jan 2012 | 8:56 am
An Application Server is a server that has an ability to run web applications. That is to say applications to handle incoming web request, and generate an appropriate response. An application server has a role distinct from that of a web server. These are two essential components and both Tomcat can do. A Tomcat Java application server can generate HTML response to a request after making a number of operations (connection to a database, an LDAP directory …). For the client (usually a web browser), there is no difference between a static web page: it still receives the HTML language ET…

Our efforts to rewrite the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act are showing good results. But we’ve got to keep the pressure on. By Lanham Napier CEO, Rackspace In my last blog post on SOPA and PIPA, I explained why Rackspace —along with much of the Internet community — opposes these bills in their current form. They are well-intentioned, but would do more harm than good.  Their enforcement provisions could be easily evaded, and they would undermine the security and stability of the Internet. Since then, I and other Rackers have been working with key lawmakers to fix the bills…

At Rackspace, we use the Net Promoter Score to gauge customer loyalty. If you’re a customer, you’ve probably received our survey asking, “How likely is it that you would recommend our company to a company or friend?” Based on a scale of 0-10, customers can be Promoters (9-10), Passives (7-8), or Detractors (0-6). Our goal is to make our customers promoters – and with this army of promoters, we can count on their loyalty to continue refer others and help fuel our growth. How effective is an army of promoters? We put that question to the test this week by asking all Rackspace…
